Transgender Care

Transition can be difficult enough without struggling to locate a reliable, knowledgeable, and caring electrologist! Having undergone many hours of work myself, I know how much of an emotional ordeal ridding oneself of unwanted hair can be. Whether it be slowly thinning out facial hair to make the first steps of social transition easier, full face and body work as you move ahead, or GCS prep, Meadowlark Electrolysis is there for you every step of the way.

Trans men and nonbinary folks are all welcome as well! Everyone’s relationship to gender is individual and unique, and we can work together to make sure hair is only growing where -you- want it.

Because of the extent of treatment needed and the level of motivation most people transitioning have, longer treatment times are available so we can work together to find a clear path to your true self that doesn’t break the bank. While your skin’s sensitivity will ultimately dictate when we have to stop treatment, you can rest assured that you won’t have any scarring from overtreatment - and with a focus on galvanic and blend methods we can work longer without this becoming a concern.

GCS Prep

For transgender clients seeking surgical options, electrolysis is your key to success, and should begin as soon as you decide this is the path for you! (See the FAQ for a description of the hair growth cycle under “How long or how many treatments will it take?” that explains why electrolysis needs to be started -at least- a year before surgery!) As the only FDA-approved method of -permanent- hair removal, any areas your surgeon wants clear of hair should be treated with electrolysis. Many clients who have gone with laser, sometimes under the promise from the surgeon that they will scrape the follicles from the opposite side of the skin, still experience complications a year or more after surgery as the hair slowly starts to grow back. Our community has enough to worry about without hair where it absolutely doesn’t belong!

While we as electrologists are trying to work with surgeons to set appropriate expectations of time and modality, it currently often falls on the patient to advocate for appropriate pre-treatment and timelines. While treatment can begin in a general pattern initially, please contact your surgeon once you have one picked out and ask for a diagram or full description of where you’ll hair removed.

Having spent several years in the medical field, I can assure you of the professional, medical-quality experience and treatment you deserve as you embark on this exciting endeavor!
